My strength as a coach comes from a varied and integrated background, combining:

• 15 years as a hands-on strategic leader
• a six year practice in behavioural change and psychodynamic theory; and
• the use of mindfulness practices to expand self-awareness.

My practical executive experience as a leader and strategist, coupled with my intensive work in behavioural change is what differentiates me from other coaches with specific skill-sets in human resources (soft skills coach), psychology (therapist coach), or small business (business coach).

My Story

My story begins 20 years ago as an entrepreneur with a passion for building businesses.

After graduating from University, I began working as a deal maker in commercial real estate before starting Equitrade Capital Corp, a project finance and development company focused on harvesting opportunities arising from NAFTA.

In 1997, I transitioned to corporate finance, where I managed a number of successful turnarounds and, by 1999, I set up a merchant bank with a Canadian venture capital company to finance high growth tech companies. 

As board member and major shareholder I guided my investees from start-up to public company status, while driving strategy, capital raising and mergers and acquisitions.

From there, it seemed a logical step to start an investment management company, which I did in 2003.  During my tenure as co-founder and CEO of Portus Asset Management, I attracted, retained and led a powerful team to acquire 26,000 customers, and assets of $800 million in under three years.

In 2005 Portus collapsed, and I was forced to take a good, hard look at my life and question the motivations underpinning my actions.  In the wake of this episode, I embarked on a six-year internal journey that allowed me to, quite literally, transform my life.  I shifted from being ego based and self grasping, to practicing living a life of service, using my skills and talents to help others achieve their goals.

In line with my core purpose, I started Mikael Meir Inc., an executive coaching company focused on empowering individuals and teams with the clarity and insight necessary to achieve true success.
